Turnstones

Genus: Arenaria – Latin; arenarius relating to sand (arena sand) (Brisson 1758).

• Central and South America; Ruddy and Black Turnstone.

Current Taxonomy: Two species within the subfamily ARENARIINAE both of the genus Arenaria.

  • A. i. interpres (Linnaeus 1758)
  • A. i. morinella (Linnaeus 1766)
• Black Turnstone A. melanocephalus (Vigors 1829)
